DEGC and 105.1 The BOUNCE to host Flavors of Detroit Summer Festival on June 14
Jun 7, 2019
From Lily Hamburger, Director of Small Business Retention & Attraction
The DEGC loves local entrepreneurs, growing neighborhood retail and seeing small businesses succeed. We support Detroit’s small business owners with a variety of programming through Motor City Match and Motor City Re-Store, and by connecting them with partners via District Business Liaisons. Through these programs, the DEGC helps bring visibility to the otherwise unknown treasures of Detroit’s small businesses.
Next week, the DEGC is teaming up with radio station 105.1 The BOUNCE to host an event to connect shoppers with Detroit businesses. The Flavors of Detroit Summer Festivalwill take place Friday, June 14 from 6 – 10 p.m. in Eastern Market’s Shed 5. The event will include a variety of Detroit’s small businesses for a celebration of Detroit food and shopping.
The Flavors of Detroit Summer Festival is free to the public and will feature restaurants and retailers of all types. Motor City Match and Motor City Re-Store-supported businesses will also be included in the festival – representing all areas of the city.
The event helps expose Detroit businesses to a wider customer base from within the city and its surrounding areas. Too often, people overlook the quality commerce happening in the city – some brand-new businesses, and others that have been operating for generations. Based on the Neighborhood Retail Opportunity Study, there are millions of dollars just waiting to be spent throughout Detroit’s neighborhoods.
Events like the Flavors of Detroit Summer Festival help uncover Detroit’s retail gems in a fun and interactive way. It’s yet another way DEGC is supporting Detroit’s business owners. We encourage shoppers to consider Detroit-based businesses before making purchases for everything from food to fashion to flowers.
Please join us Friday, June 14 at Eastern Market and get to know what’s going on in Detroit retail. It’s a great way to snack, shop and connect with others who love to support Detroit small businesses.
